Fibroblast Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Fibroblast (Plasma Pen) Skin Tightening?

Fibroblast skin tightening is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that uses a specialized device, often referred to as a plasma pen, to stimulate the skin's natural healing processes. The pen creates tiny controlled injuries in the skin's surface, triggering the production of collagen and elastin to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. Another aspect to the amazing tightening is through the process of eliminating excess skin.

2. How does the Plasma Pen work?

The plasma pen generates a small, focused electric arc (plasma) that heats and contracts the skin tissue. The process creates tiny dots on the skin's surface, which eventually heal and improve skin elasticity, reduce fine lines, tighten sagging areas, erase sun damage and help heal scarring.

3. What areas can be treated with Plasma Pen?

Fibroblast skin tightening is effective for various areas, including:

- Eyelids (upper and lower)

- Crow’s feet

- Forehead and frown lines

- Nasolabial folds

- Neck and jawline

- Stretch marks

- Scars

- Skin imperfections such as age spots

- Our most popular & loved treatment, the full face & neck

Is the treatment painful?

The procedure involves minimal discomfort. A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to numb the skin and ensure the client’s comfort during the session. Most people describe the sensation as a mild heat or slight stinging.

5. How long does the procedure take?

Treatment times vary depending on the area being treated. Most sessions last between 30 minutes to 2 hour 30 minutes, not including the time to numb the treatment area. Numbing takes one hour regardless of the area being treated. This ensures you are completely numb and there is no discomfort.

6. What is the recovery process like?

After the treatment, you may experience:

- Swelling and redness, which typically subsides in 2-5 days.

- Tiny brown dots (carbon crusts) on the treated area that flake off naturally within 7-10 days.

- Slight sensitivity or tightness as the skin heals.

It's essential to follow aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and avoid complications.

7. Are there any side effects?

Common side effects include:

- Swelling and redness

- Mild discomfort

- Tiny scabs or crusting

Serious side effects are rare but may include hyperpigmentation, infection, or scarring if aftercare instructions are not followed.

8. What should I do before the treatment?

Please read pre procedure information below for full instructions.

What are the aftercare instructions?

Please read post procedure information below for full instructions.

10. When will I see results?

You may notice some tightening immediately, but the full results typically appear over 6-12 weeks as collagen production increases and the skin regenerates.

11. How long do the results last?

Results will vary depending on individual factors like skin type, lifestyle, and aging. You may do multiple treatments 12 weeks apart depending on your goals. We recommend yearly appointments for maintenance.

12. Who is a good candidate for Fibroblast treatment?

Ideal candidates are individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity and good overall health. It is not suitable for:

- Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals

- Those with darker skin tones (risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation/hyperpigmentation)

- People with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, or those on blood-thinning medications

13. How many sessions will I need?

Most clients achieve their desired results in 1-2 sessions. However, more sessions may be needed for extensive areas or deeper wrinkles.

14. How much does the treatment cost?

Pricing varies depending on the size of the area treated and the practitioner. Please see our online booking menu for current pricing.

15. Is Fibroblast skin tightening safe?

Yes, when performed by a trained and certified practitioner, the procedure is safe. Ensure you choose a reputable provider to minimize risks.

16. How does Fibroblast compare to other treatments like microneedling or Botox?

Fibroblast offers long-lasting skin tightening without injections or downtime. Botox will freeze the muscles, preventing future wrinkles from forming, while fibroblast helps to remove current wrinkles & skin issues like sun damage.

Microneedling is similar to Fibroblast in the stimulation of collagen and elastin through the controlled damage of the skin.

Fibroblast also tightens by eliminating skin mass on the surface, while Microneedling does not. Downtime for Microneedling is shorter, but results are usually seen with more treatments on a consistent basis.

Fibroblast Pre Procedure Information

Pre-Treatment Instructions for Plasma
Fibroblast
• Arrive to your appointment with clean skin; do not apply creams,
lotions, or cosmetics.
• If you are prone to cold sores in the treatment area, please begin taking
an antiviral 2 days prior & 3-5 days post to your treatment.
• Avoid tanning and unprotected sun exposure for 2 weeks before your
appointment.
• If you have had any skin procedures in the treatment area, including--
but not limited to-waxing, laser treatment, fillers, or chemical peels,
you should wait at least 2-3 weeks before Plasma Fibroblast treatment.
• Please disclose all topical and oral medications to us before treatment.
Some medications, such as Accutane (Isotretinoin), must be
discontinued 6 months before treatment. Blood-thinning drugs and
supplements, such as aspirin, warfarin, and fish oil, should be
discontinued 2 days before treatment.
• Nicotine use thins the blood and could result in bleeding during your
procedure.
• Stop using Retin-A and other retinoid-type products, as well as salicylic
and glycolic products, in the treatment area 3 days before treatment.
• FOR TREATMENT AROUND EYES: Remove contacts before your
treatment begins. Remove eyelash extensions before your
appointment. You may have them redone after 2 weeks.

Fibroblast Post Procedure Information

Immediately following service:
1. You may experience a “stinging” sensation in the treated area(s)
immediately after treatment. This is normal and it generally only lasts for
about an hour.
2. If the treated area is swollen, you may apply ice packs covered with a
clean cloth. Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin,
ibuprofen, or steroids if possible.
3. If you are receiving a Plasma Pen treatment anywhere on your face or
neck, we recommend you sleep on your back with your head elevated to
reduce swelling.
4. Do NOT cleanse the treated area until the following day.
5. Do NOT exercise 72 hours (about 3 days) after treatment or expose
yourself to any heat, steam or sweat because this can intensify the
inflammation that is already present.
6. You must follow the aftercare protocol provided to expedite the healing
process and avoid complications.
7. The area that has been treated must NOT be covered with occlusive
dressing or any type of sunblock, make-up, mascara, creams, or any other
products until the area has fully healed.
8. It is highly unlikely you will ever get an infection from a Plasma Pen
treatment. However, the first 12 hours post-treatment is of vital importance
in protecting you from any kind of potential infection so please avoid any
activities where you could expose yourself to contaminants.
9. You may return to work the following day. However, carbon crusts will
take 7-14 days to shed on their own. Never apply makeup on top of them
during this process! This affects healing & could lead to infection.
10. Expect redness, swelling and inflammation for the first 1 to 5 days post-
treatment. This is normal but will usually be of a minor nature.
Following days after service:
1. It is normal for the area that has been treated to be red/pink, swollen and
feel tight and dry. Occasional weeping is normal and will settle.
2. Tiny crusts will quickly form on the treated area. These may be visible for
up to about a week.
3. Do NOT pick crusts off as this will delay the healing process and could
cause hyperpigmentation and scarring.
4.The area(s) treated may be cleansed daily with room temperature water
and your fingers. Avoid using washcloths or any other washing devices. Do
NOT be tempted to rub, brush or exfoliate the area in any way to aid in the
removal of the crusts.
5. Do NOT stand with your face under a hot shower for the first 3-4 days.
This could increase swelling. Try to avoid shower gels or hair products
running onto your face as this could cause irritation and inflammation.
6. Avoid swimming or chlorinated water as it can increase irritation.
7. Keep scabs/crusts moist by applying provided aftercare three times a
day – but only in small amounts, do not soak the area.
8. Men should avoid shaving the treated area until it is fully healed.
9. If you have had treatment around your eyes, you should avoid wearing
contact lenses for 72 hours after your treatment.
10. Once the scabs have fallen off (approximately 7-14 days post
treatment), your skin may be a little pink. You may begin to apply your
normal foundation/make-up/sunblock but avoid using skincare products
containing glycolic/salicylic/retinoic/AHA/scrubs/Carisonic or any other
active exfoliation ingredients/devices for at least 21 days (about 3 weeks),
as this will cause irritation. ABSOLUTELY NO MAKEUP UNTIL SCABS
HAVE FALLEN OFF.
11. Avoid sun exposure. Once the scabs have fallen off, you must wear
physical sunblock (zinc & titanium) and a hat while your skin is in the
healing stages (pink in color), and you should continue to do so for at least
the next 12 weeks (about 3 months) to avoid hyperpigmentation.
12. Do NOT sunbath/use tanning beds for 12 weeks (about 3
months) post procedure.
13. Do NOT have any other facial treatments in the same area
while your skin is healing (12 weeks).
14. Do NOT wax treatment area for at least 12 weeks (about 3
months). If you are treating the area around your brows, avoid
plucking or threading until the area is healed (about 3 weeks).
